The new extension manuals covering six aquaculture models are under preparation for government extensionists, based on the existing manuals from the Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Extension Center. These six models are on freshwater fish cage culture, freshwater fish pond culture, brackish water fish cage culutre, low-tide pond culture, high-tide pond culture, and mollusk culture. The existing manuals by government extension center have been field tested with local farmers, and the findings from the field testing are to be reflected in the development of new/improved extension manuals.
The extension manual consists of a main manual and a series of appendix documents such as record keeping books for fish farmers, seasonal lunar calendar, stocking and harvesting models, training evaluation form, and pre- and post-training questionnaires.
In the project phase I, the draft manuals for freshwater fish cage and pond culture were published in both English and Vietnamese for review, and the first edition of the associated "Record Keeping Books for Fish Farmers" were completed both in English and Vietnamese. These record keeping books were distributed to the government extension workers and freshwater fish farmers through the government extension center for field testing. In addition, a number of other accessory materials as mentioned above have been developed in two languages.
The IMOLA Project is planning to develop other four extension manuals in the project phase II.
