IMOLA Project > Activities > Co-Management > FA Area Demarcation

As a part of the activities of local fisheries associations (FAs), the IMOLA Project assisted the community-based demarcation of FA areas in the target communes.

The definition and demarcation of FA areas of competence are among the important pre-conditions for local FAs to obtain their fishery rights. By clearly defining the FA areas of competence, which clarifies who (which FA) should manage what area(s) in the lagoon, the FAs could move onto the next steps of making zoning plans (to allocate use within the FA area) and management regulations (to regulate use in the FA area).

The demarcation of FA areas has been conducted in Loc Binh as well as Quang Cong under the local FAs with the installation of concrete poles with notice boards. The similar process are to be planned for other communes in the future.

As a part of the zoning for lagoon resource management, some local FAs are also demarkating the seasonally and permanently closed areas to fishing such as spawning grounds and aquaculture areas with the support from the IMOLA Project. For more details on spawning ground demarcation in Loc Binh, please refer to the Demarcation of Spawning Grounds. Demarcation of aquaculture areas have also been completed in the Quang Cong commune. More communes are expected to demarkate their areas for management purposes in near future.
